Paul Rondelez
Paul, an archaeologist, did his PhD study on medieval Irish ironworking. During his research he became fascinated by the Irish blast-furnace industry of the 17th and 18th centuries. Paul has a vivid interest in spreading the Word about 
early mining and metallurgy.

Gerard Madden
Gerard is a local historian and the first person to publish on the Sliabh Aughty furnaces. He has turned his love for the lore and history of the area into many books and articles. Ger is also the man you are looking for if you want to visit Holy Island in Lough Derg.

All these furnaces are on private property and permission should be sought before visiting them. All the monuments described are unstable structures and all care should be taken against injury and damage to the furnaces.
